Peter BENEDIKT [later: Peter C. Benedict], born on August 14
th, 1917 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Dr. Fritz Benedikt (secretary of the central association of the Austrian Industry, d. 1956) and Olga, née Pollatschek. They lived in Vienna's 3
rd district, Rasumofskygasse 10, and he was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Law School in the 3
rd year of his studies.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna.
He had to flee from Austria and was able to emigrate to the USA via Genoa/Italy. He arrived with the
SS Rex on July 21
st, 1938 in New York City, NY and lived for the time being at 91 Central Park West, New York, NY. He applied for US citizenship as early as September 13
th, 1938, and called himself Peter Charles Benedict in the USA. In 1940, at his military medical examination ("Musterung"), he was then living in Hempstead, Nassau, NY, working at the State Laundry. He was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 14
th, 1942 - he was working as an unskilled routemen in Nassau, NY at the time - and did not disarm until after the war ended on January 8
th, 1946.
In 1952, Peter C. Benedict was living at 675 West End Ave, New York City, NY with Felice Benedict (b. 1922) and Michael Benedict (b. 1947). He later married on May 20
th, 1971. He lived at 316 Ridgewood Cir., 12203 Albany, NY, and most recently at 12 Paul Holly Dr., 12211 Albany, Albany, NY, USA.
He died on January 5
th, 1987 in Albany, NY, USA.
