Deprivation of academic degree |
Oskar BEER (born on November 13th, 1883 in Vienna), had graduated at the Law School at the University of Vienna on July 22nd, 1909 with the academic degree 'Dr. iur.'.
He and his wife, Gisela Beer (born May 24th, 1889 in Vienna, nee Kohn) and their daughter Anna Maria Beer (born April 24th, 1923 in Vienna) were able to emigrate to South America. Therefor they were deprived of their citizenship on August 6th, 1941. He was also deprived of his academic degree on July 17th, 1942 with the racist argument, that he as a Jew was not considered dignified an academic degree of a German university ('eines akademischen Grades einer deutschen Hochschule unwürdig').
It took 13 years since the deprivation - and a very long time since the end of Nazism - until the regranting of the doctorate took finally place on May 15th, 1955.
His son
Johann Beer, who studied at the Law School, too, was also expelled from the University of Vienna.
