Franz KRAL (born on September 9th, 1909 in Vienna/Austria) was assistant doctor ("Hilfsarzt mit Stipendium") at the university clinic of syphilidology and dermatology (head: Prof. Wilhelm Kerl) at the Medical School of the University of Vienna. He had studied medicine at the University of Vienna (last examination on April 24th, 1931), graduated there on June 8th, 1934 and earned the academic degree "Dr.med.univ.". Since March 1st 1936 he was salaried as assistant doctor ("Hilfsarzt mit Stipendium"). He was persecuted in times of Nazism for racist reason as a Jew, first ha was suspended in mid of March 1938, then lost his position and was discharged per end of April 1938 and was forced to leave the university. He had to flee from Austria and could emigrate to New Zealand, although physicians there were rather hostile to doctors from Germany and Austria. Besides this he was able to live and soon also work as a physician there. He died on November 30th, 1969 in New Zealand.
