Kurt GRAFTMANN, born on March 17th, 1912 in Vienna (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna, Citizenship: Austria) was the son of Oskar Graftmann (salesman) and Adele, nee. Bloch and the family lived in Viennas' 20th district, Raffaelgasse 6/13. He graduated from high school in summer 1931 and was enrolled at the Medical School of the University of Vienna in fall term 1931/32 for the next 13 terms. For unknown reasons 2,5 years of study were not confirmed, so that he was finally enrolled in the fall term 1937/38 in the 3rd year of his studies (fall term 1937/38 was validated on February 9th, 1938). After the so called "Anschluss" in March 1938 he was forced to leave the university for racist reasons and had to flee from Vienna and former Austria. He was able to emigrate to Shanghai and on July 30, 1939 he married Rosa Bartensten there. In 1943 their son Josef Joachim Oskar was born. The family continued to emigrate to the USA in 1947. They first settled down in San Francisco/California and in 1948 in Seattle/Washington (1953 naturalization to US-citizens).
