Georg Erich DUERRHEIM, born on July 19
th, 1908 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Max Duerrheim (old-age pensioner), lived in Vienna's 15
th district, Vogelweidplatz 4/20, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 4th year of his studies.
He was one of the "Dunera Boys", Austrians who could escape to Great Britain, but were deported from there with the SS Dunera to Australia, then a British colony. He explained that he had to interrupt his studies due to a lack of money in the 1930ies but could continue later on but therefor was not yet finished with his studies when National-Socialist regime took over power in Austria in 1938 and he was forced to leave the university for racist reason.
After the end of World War II he succeeded to finish his studies and earned his medical degree at the University of Melbourne and became a physician.
He worked at the Mental Hospital in Sunbury and returned to Austria in the late 1960ies, together with his wife, who also had to emigrate from Vienna in 1938, and died in June 1965 in Vienna and is buried at central cemetery Vienna on June 14
th, 1965.
