Friederike DIAMANT (later Frederica LOSCH), born on March 24
th, 1909 in Vienna (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Josef Diamant and Judith Diamant (née Eissler), had graduated from high school on October 9
th, 1929 at Realgymnasium in Vienna's 2
nd district and began studying German language and literature Studies in fall term 1929/30 at the University of Vienna. She continue to take courses until end of spring term 1933.
In 1938 she was no more enrolled at the Philosophical School, but was preparing for the final examinations ("Rigorosen"). She had registered for the final examinations on December 23
rd, 1937, and passed the first 'Rigorosum' on October 27
th, 1938. and handed in her dissertation "Die Naturdichtung von Pope, Brockes und Haller. Ein Vergleich" which was accepted on January 4
th, 1938.
After the "Anschluss", however, the examination process stopped for racist reason and it was unclear for some time whether she could ever finish her studies in German language and literature Studies.
Only in October 1938 she was allowed to take the examinations and she passed the first "Rigorosum" on October 19
th, 1938 (with Prof. Eduard Castle, Karl Kralik, Rudolf Hittmair) and she also passed the second "Rigorosum" on October 27
th, 1938 ("Philosophicum", with Prof. Karl Buehler and Richard Meister).
She could finally finish her studies and graduated on October 31
st, 1938, but only with the discriminating ceremony of a "Nichtarierpromotion", which included at the same time that she was banned from her profession.
During her studies, in 1932, she had married Eduard Losch, five years older, in the Pazmanitentempel in Vienna's 2nd district. After the "Anschluss" both had to flee Vienna, but could emigrate only on November 24
th 1939 with the "SS Statendam" from Rotterdam to the United States, where they arrived on December 5
th, 1939 in New York.
They later lived in New Jersey and had two children.
