Ernst Heinrich Leonhard ALBERT (born on September 28
th, 1908 in Vienna) as son of philosopher and author Dr. Georg Albert (1869-1943) and grandson of surgeon and university professor Dr. Eduard Albert (1841-1900). He had studied law and graduated at the Law School at the University of Vienna on November 17
th, 1933 with the academic degree 'Dr. iur.'.
He then lived in Vienna's 9
th district, Spitalgasse 1/Alser Strasse 6, but moved to Berlin in June 1936 (his last residence was Berlin-Charlottenburg, Leibnizstrasse 59). He was persecuted under National Socialism for political reasons and had to flee from Berlin. He was able to emigrate to London, England/Great Britain, whereupon his citizenship was revoked on September 3
rd, 1941 (announced in the German Reich Gazette ("Deutsche Reichsanzeiger") No. 208 of September 6
th, 1941). As a legal consequence, on July 17
th, 1942, he was also deprived of his academic degree for racist reasons, since under National Socialism he was considered "as unworthy of an academic degree from a German university" ("eines akademischen Grades einer deutschen Hochschule unwuerdig").
It was not until 13 years after the deprivation and a very long time since the end of National-Socialism until the regranting of his doctoral degree took finally place in May 15
th, 1955, and the revocation declared "null and void" from the beginning'.
Ernst Heinrich L. Albert was married to Amelia L. Albert (b. June 1
st, 1911), and they lived in London's City of Westminster, St. Marylebon (St. John's Wood Road 27) from 1939 to at least mid 1950s. He was able to work in London initially only as a journalist and translator. He was naturalized in January 1946, became a British citizen and lived with his wife in London's district of Camden, Hampstead (Well Road 17) at least since 1956 and he was a principal in the Foreign Office. He was made an Esquire and in 1963 also an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
He died on April 2
nd, 1989 in London, England/Great Britain.
