Abraham TURNAU, born on July 19th, 1914 in Drohobyez/Poland [Drohobytsch/Ukraine] (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Helmut Turnau (civil servant), lived in Vienna's 5th district, Kriehubergasse 10, was enrolled finally in the fall term 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 5th and last year of his studies and took courses in Pharmaceutics and Chemistry ("Absolutorium" was certified on January 17th, 1938). In 1938 he was was no more enrolled but was preparing for the final examinations. After the so called "Anschluss" he was forced to quit his studies and to leave the University of Vienna for racist reason after the takeover of power of National-Socialism. But after numerous incertainties he could finally finish his studies and graduated on July 21st, 1938 and gained the academic degree "Mag.pharm.", but only with the discriminating ceremony of a "Nichtariersponsion", which included at the same time that he was banned from his profession. He had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to Palestine [Israel] where he lived and worked as chief district pharmacist and lecturer at the Hebrew University. Abraham Turnau died in Tel Aviv/Israel in 1993.
