Anna Szabó, Lochhead

Anna SZABÓ (m. LOCHHEAD), born on December 6^th, 1918 in Kaposvár/Hungary (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), daughter of Dr. Samuel Szabó (dentist) and Sarolta Szabó, née Tausz, lived in Vienna's 2^nd district, Reichsbrueückenstrasse 42, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 1^st year of her studies.

Under National Socialism, after the Anschluss, she was forced to abandon her studies and leave the University of Vienna for racist reasons.

She had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to England in time, where she lived in London (33, Lonsdowne Crescent, London W 11, later 113 Southwood Lane, London N 6) and worked in the health sector or as a social worker and had obtained British citizenship.

Her older sister, Margit Ilona Irma Szabo (née Margareth S. Lochhead, 1906-1972), had also gone to England. She married on March 26^th, 1938, in Cambridge the Canadian-born Scotsman Dr. John Hutchison Lochhead (1909-2010) and emigrated with him to the U.S. in 1939, where they settled in Burlington, Chittenden, Vermont (two sons, Jack Van Slye (1944) and William Matthew (1948).
A year and a half after her sister's death in the U.S. on August 23^rd, 1972, Anna Szabo married her sister's widower Prof. John Hutchison Lochhead, Prof. f. Zoology Univ. of Vermont, in Fulham, Greater London/GB in October 1974 and moved to the U.S. with him. She remained British, however, living as a permanent resident alien and did not become a U.S. citizen.
They then lived together in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA.

Anna Lochhead, née Szabó, died at age 89 on May 22^nd, 2007 in Woods Hole, MA/USA, her husband at age 101 on March 8^th, 2010 in East Falmouth, Barnstable, MA/USA.
