Max STRASSBERG (b. June 15
th, 1886 in Vienna), the son of Jacob Schia Strassberg (real estate tycoon and board member of the Tempelverein of the Favoritner Jewish Community, died 1939) and of Amalia Srassberg, née Haber.
He received his doctorate at the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna on May 15
th, 1911, earned the degree of "Dr. med." and worked as a doctor in Vienna.
Dr. Max Strassberg had married Masal (Mathilde Mizzi), Albala on June 23
rd, 1912 in the turkish Temple in Vienna 2
nd district, Zirkusgasse 22, but the marriage was dissolved on February 4
th, 1930 in the district court of Vienna-Margarethen. Later, Dr. Max Strassberger worked as a doctor in Egypt - in 1933 he had permanently deregistered from Vienna to Egypt - and maybe also in Greece, entually in Thessaloniki, but this could not yet be prooved.
After National-Socialist takeover of power he, as a Jew, was forcibly expatriated from the Third Reich and on July 14
th, 1942, he was deprived of his academic degree for racist reason at the University of Vienna, since in National-Socialism he was considered "unworthy as a Jew to have an academic degree of a German university".
It was not until 13 years after the withdrawal and long after the end of National-Socialism that he was regranted his doctorate on May 15
th, 1955, in declaring the revocation as "void from the beginning" - this formal act was held "reservat" and he got no information about this.
His younger sister, Anna Netty Strassberg-Huttrer, later returned to Vienna from her emigration in the USA and died in Vienna in September 1978, buried in the Greek Dept. of the Central Cemetery.
His younger sister, Anna Netty Strassberg-Huttrer and her husband, Manfred Huttrer, resigned from the Jewish community on November 25
th, 1938 (note: Greek Catholic baptized) and tried to flee Austria - only in 1940 they did succeed to emigrate to the USA with the help of JOINT and Frederic S. Strassberg as a depositer. Anny Netty Strassberg-huttrer returned to Vienna from the United States in 1969 and died here in December 1973, and is buried in the Greek section of the Central Cemetery.
His older brother Dr. jur. Bernhard Heinrich Strassberg, (born 1882 in Lemberg, Galicia [Lviv/Ukraine] graduated from the University of Vienna on July 14
th, 1905 as a "Dr. jur." and was registered in the Attorney's List Vienna in 1914 (practice: Vienna 1
st district, Goldschmiedgasse 8). In 1938 he was removed from the lawyer list for racist reasons and was deported to Auschwitz and murdered there. His wife Alice died in Theresienstadt.
About the further life and work of Dr. med. Max Strassberg little is known so far.
