Walter Josef Franz BLUM, born on July 23rd, 1919 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Paul Blum (general manager insurance company, 1881-1935) and Maria Blum (née Sobiehart, 1881-?), lived in Vienna 13th district, Mantlergasse 45, was enrolled until the fall term 1938/39 at the Philosophical School in the 2nd year of his studies and took courses in Classical Philology, Ancient History and German language and literature Studies. He was discriminated as a so called "Mischling 1. Grades" but could continue his studies at first - valid until revoked. However, he was no longer admitted to examinations in 1940 for "racial" reasons. He then tried to enroll at the Hochschule für Welthandel to find employment in industry, but was finally admitted to the final examinations ("Rigorosen") by the Reich Ministry of Education in Berlin, but not to graduate, although his dissertation was finished and approbated. He was therefore only able to earn his "Dr. phil." five years later, after the end of Nationalsocialism, on May 17th, 1945 with his final thesis (Dissertation) from 1940: "Die Gestalt des Koenigs in der attischen Tragoedie" in Classical Philology. He entered the teaching profession in 1946 and was a high school teacher for Latin, Greek and German at the Bundesrealgymnasium Wien 12 (Vienna's 12th, Erlegasse 32-34, later: Singrienergasse 19-21) where he also retired in 1984/85. In 1985 he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria. He was married to Dr. Stefanie Vosátka since 1965 and married Eva Maria Pangrazzi in St. Poelten/Lower Austria in 1985 in second marriage. He also wrote textbooks for the teaching of Latin at grammar schools. The last book to be published a year before his death was "Latein immer modern. Texte und Kommentar" (Latin always modern. Texts and commentary) by the Viennese publishing house Hoelder-Pichler-Tempsky (1997).

OStR i.R. Mag. Dr. Walter Blum died on December 22nd, 1998 in St. Poelten/Lower Austria.
