Dr. Fritz SOKAL, born on September 6
th, 1910 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna, Citizenship: Austria), son of David Sokal (civil servant) and his wife Olga Sokal, lived in Vienna 2
nd district, Castellezgasse 9.
After he had graduated from high school ('Bundesrealgymnasium'), he began to study medicine at the University of Vienna in fall term 1929/30. Sokal was enrolled finally in fall term 1934/35 at the Medical School in the 5
th year of his studies ('Absolutorium' was certified on March 16
th, 1936). He finished his studies and was graduated 'Dr.med.' on March 16
th, 1936. Dr. Fritz Sokal received his identification card from the Vienna Medical Association, issued in March 20
th, 1936.
After his graduation Fritz Sokal worked full time at the Dental Department of the University of Vienna, visiting a post-graduate dental training course from fall term 1936/37 until spring term 1938. On July 9
th, 1938 he was issued a certificate for the completed course. At this point of time, he would not be licensed as a dentist.
After the "Anschluss" 1938 Fritz Sokal first was able to flee to France (deregistered from Vienna on September 13
th, 1938). In France he was later arrested and interned in Drancy internment camp. From there he was deported to Auschwitz [Oswiecim/Poland] on September 4
th, 1942.
