Susanna SCHNABEL, born on December 24th, 1917 in Budapest/Hungary (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Victor Schnabel (manufacturer), lived in Wien 3., Reisnerstrasse 16, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Philosophical School in the 2nd year of her studies and took courses in Chemistry.
She was able to emigrate to France and continue her studies in Chemistry and Physics until 1939 at the Sorbonne, but probably n ot graduate. She managed to get out of Paris and joined her two older sisters in London. Allthough the family converted to protestantism even before her birth in 1915 or 1916, so she was Protestant, she and the rest of the family were considered by the Austrian authorities to be Jewish by descent. Her father wanted her to come to London, as he was an anglophile, and she was a fluent English speaker. However she managed to obtain a good job as private secretary to Helmuth Schroder of Schroders Bank in London. She died on March 1st, 1967 in London from cancer.
