Annie SCHILLER (née RECHNITZER), born on October 16th, 1911 in Vienna's 19th district (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Hugo Rechnitzer (1876-1942, bank clerk) and Amelie Rechnitzer, née Turcsany (1884-1942, Vienna's 19th district, Iglaseegasse 22) and lived in Vienna's 19th district, Gebhardtgasse 14/12. She was last enrolled in the fall term 1937/38 at the School of Philosophy in the 4th and last year of studies and took lectures in psychology, philosophy and pedagogy.

She had received the "Absolutorium" before the "Anschluss" on February 23rd, 1938, and was therefore no longer enrolled in the spring term of 1938, but was already in the final examination stage. Under National Socialism, she was no longer able to sit for the exams (viva voce) and was forced, for racist reasons, to quit her studies without a degree and leave the University of Vienna.
She had married Ing. Paul Schiller (1908-1973, Vienna 19, Bernatzikgasse 8) on October 11th, 1932 in Kezmarok/Slovakia and in 1937 son Thomas Peter was born in Vienna (later son John David in Australia).

They had to flee Vienna and were still able to leave the country in time and leave for the time being for England, Great Britain, where they emigrated on March 11th, 1939 from London with the SS Otranto to Australia, where they arrived on April 16th, 1939 in Melbourne, Victoria. Annie Schiller, her husband and sons received Australian citizenship on February 14th, 1945.

Annie's parents had not been able to escape in time and they were deported from a Vienna Jewish collective home to German occupied Riga/Lithuania in January 1942, where they were murdered.

Annie Schiller, née Rechnitzer, died at the age of 85 on September 16th, 1997 in Melbourne, VIC/Australia.
