Hans POLLAK, born on July 26
th, 1913 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), son of Ing. Geza (Gustave) Pollak (engineer, b. 1875) and his wife Helen(e) (née Schneider, 1886-1978), lived in Vienna's 4
th district, Gußhausstr. 3, was enrolled finally in the spring term 1938 at the Medical School in the 5
th and last year of his studies.
In 1938, after the takeover of power of National-Socialism he was forced to quit his studies for racist reason and to leave the University of Vienna.
He had to flee from Nazi-occupied Vienna and Austria and first managed to get to Switzerland and from there to emigrate (with a visa issued in Zurich) on April 22
nd, 1939 from Southampton / England with the SS Aquitania to New York in the USA. At the 16
th US Census, on April 22
nd, 1940, he was admitted to the Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, Fulton, New York as a doctor with the academic degree "Dr. (MD).
Later he married
Lisbeth Lotte Altmann (1916-1993), also expelled from the University of Vienna in 1938, and lived and worked as a physician with his wife and their four children till their end in Gloversville.
He deceased in the age of 87 on March 11
th in Gloversville, New York/USA.
