He himself survived several ghettos, labor- and concentration camps, including Traunkirchen, Mitterweissenbach, Opole, Deblin, Janow, Modliborcycze, Plaszow and Flossenbuerg.
His older brother, Dr. Franz Pick (b. June 13
th, 1902), who had already completed his medical studies in 1926, had fled from Vienna to the Netherlands in time, but was arrested there after the occupation and was deported to the concentration camp Auschwitz [Oświęcim] in German occupied Poland. He survived and worked as researcher at Institut Pasteuer in Paris/France, than became full professor for tropical medicine in Uruguay, and later returned to Austria and became a general practitioner.
Friedrich Pick returned to Austria after the end of National Socialism, was able to continue his medical studies and received his doctorate as "Dr.med.univ." (M.D.) at the University of Vienna on February 8
th, 1951. After completing his specialist training in radiology, he worked as a doctor and court expert from 1959 until his retirement at the end of 1975.
He was married and had one daughter.
Dr. Friedrich Pick died on July 25
th, 1983 in Vienna.
