Gusti BRINGS (nee Waldstein), born on April 22nd, 1905 in Vienna/Austria as a daughter of Dr. med. Edmund Waldstein (1871-1943) and Paula Waldstein (nee Wiener, 1878-1948). She had graduated to "Dr.med.univ." on April 3rd, 1930 at the University of Vienna and got married to the gynecologist Dr. med. Ludwig Brings (1902-1979) on September 23rd, 1933 in Vienna 18th district and they lived in Vienna 9th district, Wasagasse 8, where they also had their practice, she as an internist, he as a gynecologist. She also worked at the Children's Department of the Vienna Wilhelminenspital and was also employed as an unpaid assistant doctor ("Hilfsarzt ohne Stipendium") at the II. Medical University Clinic (headed by Prof. Jagic) of the University of Vienna. After the "Anschluss" she was dismissed for racist reasons and expelled from the University of Vienna. Gusti Brings and her husband Ludwig "Lewis" Brings had to flee Austria and were able to emigrate via England to the USA, where they arrived at the end of 1938 / beginning of 1939 and for the time being in New York City for two years they had to study again to get the approval to work as physicians in the USA. Then they moved to Cumberland (Maryland / USA) where in 1940 they got their American "M.D." and soon they got two children. The family stayed in Cumberland and both worked as doctors until the end of their lives and were also active as chamber musicians. Lewis Brings died in 1979, Gusti Elisabeth Brings, nee Waldstein, died in 1982 in Cumberland, Maryland / USA.
