Emil STOCK (né Chajmowicz), born on May 14th, 1914 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, citizenship 1938: Austria), son of Julius Stock (né Chaskel Juda Chajmowicz, 1881-1944, merchant, owner of a perfumery until 1937) and Marie Chajmowicz Stock, née Lebelang (1882-1941), lived in Vienna's 2nd district, Josefinengasse 1/9, after an interruption in his studies from fall term of 1934/35, he re-enrolled at the Philosophical School in the 3rd year of his studies in the fall term of 1937/38 and attended lectures in philosophy, oriental studies and musicology.

Under National Socialism, he was forced to drop out of his studies and leave the University of Vienna after the Anschluss for racist reasons.

He had to flee Vienna after he was arrested during the November pogrom and deported to the Dachau concentration camp, where he was imprisoned from November 10th, 1938 to April 14th, 1939 and was expelled from the country after his release. He managed to emigrate to Edinburgh, Scotland, where his brother Alexander Stock (1912-1975) was already living, with the help of the emigration office of the Jewish Community of Vienna at the beginning of May 1939. His father had been able to flee to Holland, but was later arrested in the German-occupied Netherlands and deported via the Westerbork collection camp to Theresienstadt [Terezín/Czech Republic] in the German-occupied Czechoslowacian Republic and from there deported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau [Oświęcim/Poland] concentration camp on May 16th, 1944, where he was murdered shortly afterwards on May 31st, 1944. Emil's mother Maria died in Vienna in 1941.

Emil Stock was interned in England as an enemy alien at the end of 1939. He was released on October 2nd, 1940 and joined the Royal Army. He married the Scottish-born Williamina Alexandra Hutchison, 1939, widowed Oglivie (1903-1990) and they had a daughter (Margaret Ogilvie Adams, née Stock, 1940) and a son.

Emil Edward Stock fought as a trooper in the 1st Royal Tank Regiment of the Royal Armored Corps against the National Socialist German Reich, was wounded in Europe and died on November 6th, 1944 in Glasgow, Scotland/Great Britain, where he was also buried in Glenduffhill Cemetery.
