Peter August BLANDENIER, born on November 19th, 1905 in Gelsenkirchen/Germany (entitled residency ('heimatberechtigt') for Westfalen/Germany, Citizenship: German Reich), son of August Blandenier (old-age pensioner), lived in Wien 8, Alser Straße 17.

After finishing school with the “Abitur” he left Germany for Austria, where he joined the Minorit Order. He started his novitiate on October 19th, 1937 in the monastery in Asparn an der Zaya and took the order’s vow one year later. He was enrolled at the Faculty of catholic theology of the University of Vienna from fall term 1938/39 (November 9th, 1938).
Together with a confrere in the friary in Wien 8, Alser Straße, Otho Josef Pinzenöhler, he joined the legitimist resistance group “Hebra”, which held meetings in the monastery, debated and prepared the spreading of handbills. An undercover informer uncovered the group, Wilhelm von Hebra, the founder of the group, was arrested end of March, 1939, and Peter Blandenier on May 31st. He was accused to endanger “the existence and safety of the people and the state through his behavior”. He was also “strongly suspected” to run preparations for high treason. The trial was stopped on December, 1939, for lack of evidence.

On March 4th, 1940 Peter Blandenier was arrested again and deported to the concentration camp Dachau/Germany on May 4th, where he died on April 20th, 1941.

In the parish church Alser Vorstadt in Wien 8, Alser Straße 17, a plaque commemorates Frater Peter Blandenier.
