Preamble

Following the advent of the National Socialist regime in the year 1938, more than 2,700 mostly Jewish affiliates of the University of Vienna were dismissed and subsequently driven away and/or murdered - lecturers, students and administration employees. Furthermore, over 200 people were stripped of their academic titles.

Rosa Feriszke, recte Leimberg (verh. Jelinek)

Rosa FERISZKE, recte LEIMBERG (married JELINEK), born on November 8th, 1914 in Vienna/Austria (entitled residency ("heimatberechtigt") for Vienna/Austria, Citizenship: Austria), daughter of Schlome Feriszke recte Leimberg and Gittel, née Harband recte Makutra, lived in Vienna's 20th district, Wintergasse 1/II/16. In 1934, she had passed her school-leaving examination (Matura) at the Bundesrealgymnasium in Vienna's 2nd district Castelezzgasse 35, and began studying at the University of Vienna in the fall term of 1934/35. She was enrolled finally in the fall term of 1937/38 at the Philosophical School in the 4th and last year of her studies and took courses in German and English language and literature Studies and in History. She got a small monthly-grant from Bereitschaft. Verein für freiwillige Fuersorge.

Under National Socialism, after the Anschluss, she was forced to abandon her studies and leave the University of Vienna for racist reasons.

She had to flee Vienna and was able to emigrate to England/Great Britain in time with a domestic permit and lived and worked there as a housemaid in Leeds. On March 13th, 1943, she married Josef Jelinek, a Czechoslovakian, in Leeds, England, and thus became a Czechoslovakian citizen.

Little is known about her further life.
