Preamble

Following the advent of the National Socialist regime in the year 1938, more than 2,700 mostly Jewish affiliates of the University of Vienna were dismissed and subsequently driven away and/or murdered - lecturers, students and administration employees. Furthermore, over 200 people were stripped of their academic titles.

Walter ZWEIG (born on October 30th, 1872 in Bruenn, Moravia/Austro-Hungarian Empire [Brno, Czech Republic]) was 1938 private lecturer with the title of an extraordinary professor ("'Privatdozent tit. ao. Prof.") for inner medicine at the Medical School of the University of Vienna.

He was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew, lost his position and was forced to leave the university on April 22nd, 1938.
