Following the advent of the National Socialist regime in the year 1938, more than 2,700 mostly Jewish affiliates of the University of Vienna were dismissed and subsequently driven away and/or murdered - lecturers, students and administration employees. Furthermore, over 200 people were stripped of their academic titles.

Friedrich RAPPAPORT, born on March 27, 1891 (or 1901) in Stanislau, Galicia (Austro-Hungarian Empire) [Iwano-Frankiwsk/Івано-Франківськ, Ukraine] and lived in Vienna's 18th district, Gentzgasse 19 since 1932. He had studied chemistry and physics 1919-1923 and graduated on November 8, 1923 at the University of Vienna ("Dr. phil."). Title of his dissertation in chemistry was "Beitraege zur Kenntnis der Beziehungen zwischen Atomgruppierung und spezifischer Affinitaet". From 1928 until spring term 1938 he was assistent professor ("Assistent") at the Medical School, at the Institute for general and experimental Pathology (head: Prof. Dr. Julius Rothberger) in Vienna's 9th district, Kinderspitalgasse 15.

In the end of May 1938 he was dismissed (letter of the dean of the medical school from May 27, 1938). He had to flee from Austria after the "Anschluss" on August 7, 1938 and he could emigrate to Palestine [Israel] together with his wife Dr. Dora Rappaport, nee Ziffer (born January 9, 1901). They lived in Tel Aviv since September 1938. In Israel he was head of the bacteriological Dept. of the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. He was author of "Mikrochemie des Blutes" (Vienna/Leipzig 1935, with a preface of Prof. Fritz Silberstein and "Rapid microchemical methods for blood and CSF examinations" (1949).

He deceased on July 17, 1959 in Israel.
