Max Neuburger

Max NEUBURGER (born on December 8th, 1868 in Vienna as son of Ferdinand Neuburger (1831-1914), merchant from Munich/Germany, and Helene, née Defflis (born around 1838) from Hamburg/Germany, died on March 15th, 1955 in Vienna) was emerited professor for History of Medicine ("Geschichte der Medizin") at the Medical School of the University of Vienna. Neuburger was married to Johanna, née Conrad (ca. 1878-1930) since 1906, the couple had two sons: the future chemical enigneer Camillo (Maximilian) Neuburger (1900-ca. 1980) and the future physician Friedrich Neuburger (1908-1992). Since 1915 the family lived in Vienna's 7th district, Neubaugasse 79/7. He was persecuted in times of Nazism as a Jew lost his position as honorary professor and was forced to leave the university on April 22nd, 1938. In August 1939 he was able to emigrate to London/Great Britain. In 1948 Max Neuburger emigrated to Buffalo/USA but returned to Austria in 1952.
